The 1981 NBA All-Star Game took place at Richfield Coliseum and was a close affair. An up-and-down battle, the East won by a final score of 123-120. The game featured legends such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, George Gervin and a young Larry Bird. Paul Westphal and Dennis Johnson led the game in scoring with 19 points a piece for the Western Conference, while the East’s balanced attack was topped by Dr. J’s 18. An unlikely hero with just nine points and nine assists, Nate “Tiny” Archibald brought home the MVP trophy. It was his total control over the fast-paced game that lead to the East’s win and earned him the honors.
