DIAMOND EDITION

1997 All-Star Court Gund Arena

In February 1997, the NBA gathered at Gund Arena in Cleveland to celebrate not just the season’s All-Stars, but the greatest players ever to play the game. 1997 was the 50th anniversary of the league, and the legends came from far and wide to celebrate the NBA’s 50 greatest players. With the greatest of all time gathered to watch, there were a number of notable performances, including Kobe Bryant (who was not yet an All-Star) winning the Slam Dunk Contest in a performance that put him on the map. In the All-Star Game, Michael Jordan - then in the middle of his second three-peat with the Bulls – notched the first triple double in All-Star history. But it was Charlotte’s Glen Rice who scored 26 points on hot shooting and led the east to a 132-120 Victory, securing the MVP in front of 20,592 fans.
